Welcome to our Adventure

Introducing The Carroll’s

Originally from the UK and having known each other since we were teens Martin and I lost touch while we were both busy navigating life, following our own paths and generally learning to adult (obviously I was more successful at learning to be an adult than Peter Pan …..Oops I mean Martin), until finally reconnecting in 2012 through that wonderful medium of social media.

At that time Martin was working and living in New Zealand and I the UK, our relationship blossomed through a constant loop of “Good morning’s” and “Goodnight’s” over the phone or laptop, the lead up to visits either in NZ or the UK would be a crazy mix of nervous excitement counting down the days, hours then minutes, awful jetlag that has you dosing off when you so desperately want to make the most of your time followed by feelings of impending doom and dread and wanting time to stop when the visit drew to an end. It wasn’t easy but we are a testament that relationships spanning hemispheres and time zones can work.

In late 2013 we tied the knot and I emigrated to NZ to join Martin and start our married life together on our 31 acre lifestyle block nestled in the rolling hills of the most stunning countryside New Zealand has to offer and we have been here for the past 8 years. Our family has grown since then with each fur baby addition and with our three cute, crazy kitties Bob, Bear and Ray and our Boxer Pupperooney Lola our family is complete (and our clothing, floor and furniture permanently covered with fur).

Our home is off the beaten track in the wilds of the Waikato Hills with no danger of friends or family dropping in and surprising us when the house looks a mess (or we look a mess for that matter), heck our nearest neighbour is half a kilometre away! If you can imagine a tranquil retreat surrounded by native bush, the gentle hum of birdsong and insects interspersed with the occasional rumble of a cattle truck as a daily sound track then you would be imagining our home. The hot summers spent at the beach or one of the nearby waterfalls, the mild winters spent hunkered in front of the log burner while the rain drifts through the valley and the general laid back Kiwi Lifestyle have made for a wonderful adventure.

We have been truly spoilt these past 8 years, waking up to mist shrouded valleys, watching wild deer graze in the paddocks, listening to a cacophony of Tui song as dusk settles and laying on the deck gazing at the milky way twinkling above us ……so why on earth would you want to leave all of that for a new life in Canada I hear you ask? (no doubt with a tone of bewilderment and look of “You’ve got to be out of your frickin minds”?

Well I guess you are going to have to read the blog to find out!
